I spent months working 12 hour days cleaning floors and taking wallpaper down with one baby strapped to my back, and others climbing inside the playpen. Ha! It was all starting to form, but it wasn't quite finished. The project would require time, money and of course my favourite shopping experience to furnish this house. My three sons and me searched for hidden gems while going to estate sales in order to help ensure that my spending was under control. The routine we had for the week was to walk from Thursday through Saturday through estate sales and garage sales buying a mixture of vintage and modern pieces, while I spent on weekdays painting and sanding the driveway. Furniture looked this way... which is the place I discovered my love for restoration. When our house was completed, I was unable to give up! There was an area on the market in town where I would sell my pieces. Eventually I had more pieces that I knew how to use them and outgrew the area. At home, I started hosting open houses in which more than 1000 people could come in and purchase any product they wanted on the first floor within a single weekend. Growing Days was founded in my house. Not only was my business flourishing, but I was also growing our family of four. I was balancing the demands between what it took to start a new business and be a mommy too. Growing Days just seemed to be the right fit. In 2013, my daughter Nora became our fourth child. My business was going well but I was in need of a break. I decided to quit building my old furniture for a few months and stay home with the children. This was precisely what I required. However after a few months after that, the phone began to call. A lot of people contacted me for help regarding home improvements and decor. These were mostly customers that came to my home to purchase furniture. After that, I gradually took on clients in my own way. Then I was able to have many clients, and had an enterprise of renovations to homes. If you'd said to me that this company of mine would turn into the basis of a television show on DIY Network I probably would have been astonished. Indeed, I am laughing slightly when I recall the episode.
